The year 10 female house captains worked together to create an assembly to celebrate International Women's Day that takes place on the 8th March 2025. They worked hard with Miss Saddique and Mrs Hart to create an assembly to recognise the achievements of different women around the world that they took inspiration from.
This encouraged the students around our school to take inspiration from the women who were discussed, embodying them theme of #givetogain. As well as this, the assembly discussed the collective role as women in society and how we should unite as women as we are stronger together.
International woman's day is celebrated to recognize the achievements of women globally, as well as to raise awareness about the discrimination that women face, supporting and recognising the rights of women and to increase equality of men and women through all aspects of life and society.
This year's theme was #GiveToGain. Investing time, resources, and effort into supporting women and girls provides benefits for all of society. The “giving” aspect focuses on actions that directly benefit and empower women around the world, this could be through sharing knowledge, challenging discrimination and actively trying to amplify woman's voices.
As a result of these actions, we then “gain” by having a diverse and empowered society, where one person's actions can provide large benefits to women globally. Different perspectives are shared, opportunities multiply, and there is a large growth within society, socially and economically. In school we also had a pledge board to encourage individuals to pledge towards actions that will encourage gender equality and woman empowerment.
