Year 8 Students Complete Multi-Stage STEM and Marketing Project with Johnson & Johnson

This term, our Year 8 students took part in an exciting multi‑stage STEM project in partnership with the local branch of Johnson & Johnson, giving them a unique insight into the world of pharmaceutical development, research, and marketing.

The project began with a visit to the Johnson & Johnson offices, where students were introduced to the company, its global impact, and the complex processes involved in developing new medicines. J&J scientists and staff led workshops explaining how diseases are researched, how treatments are designed, and the rigorous testing required before any drug reaches patients. Students were then challenged to research a disease of their choice and present their findings to a panel of Johnson & Johnson judges, an experience that encouraged teamwork, scientific thinking, and confident communication.

In the second stage of the project, J&J’s marketing team delivered a professional workshop on the strict rules governing pharmaceutical marketing in the UK. Students learned how medicines can be advertised, what information must be included, and how companies ensure their messaging is ethical, accurate, and safe. Equipped with this new knowledge, Year 8 were tasked with developing and marketing a treatment for the disease they had previously researched, once again presenting their work to the J&J judging panel.

Throughout the project, our students showed exceptional creativity, maturity, and enthusiasm. They asked thoughtful questions, engaged deeply with industry experts, and produced impressive scientific and marketing work that reflected both their understanding and their imagination. Staff from Johnson & Johnson praised their professionalism and curiosity.

A big congratulations to our final winners Halo (8Q1) and Light for Leukaemia (8P1).
